Chess club

Chestnut class has a chess club and we've had lots of fun in it.The Hexagons: Bella, Louis, Harry, Tom, Patience and Hannah,
as well as Jay and Lillie were in chess club. To start with we learnt which piece goes where. Next we started to play games of chess it was really great.
This is chess club at the end.

It was very sad when some people quit but at least 4 people stayed at chess club all the time, yey.
The best part was that we were playing different people.

Chestnut Class leads Collective Worship

CHESTNUT CLASS LEADS COLLECTIVE WORSHIP

ON  9.3.15 CHESTNUT CLASS LED ASSEMBLY!
WE SHOWED THE WHOLE SCHOOL WHAT WE COULD DO. WE DID IT ALL. THE TITLE WAS THE FLAMING FIERY FURNACE. IT WAS GREAT FUN. SOME PEOPLE WERE NERVOUS THEIR TEETH WERE CHATTERING AND THEIR KNEES WERE KNOCKING.

We did a play about Shadrach, Medshach and Abednego and how God saved them when they were thrown into the flaming, fiery furnace. It taught us that God is always with us.

Can you spot Shadrach?

The whole school were watching.
Here's the court's musician.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego get taken to the king.

Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego survived the flaming, fiery, furnace.  The king was sorry for what he'd done.

Chesnut class - gymnastics

W
e were doing a warm up and we were having fun because we were trying out different movements around the hall.We have a fun teacher that doing fun things, some people fell over but most succeeded.

This is our class attempting a one legged balance.
Later we were doing some balances e.g arch, tuck dish ,dish  and more.

Afterwards we started making are own sequences.

Here are two action photos of a group doing their sequence.

World book day
It's world book day and lots of children dressed up. World book day is not about dressing up, it is about reading but the reason the children dressed up is because they came as their favourite character from a book. Some people were characters from Frozen.

Year 3 children enjoyed reading to younger children in Reception and Year 1.
Here is a picture  of somebody from Chestnut Class (Year 3) reading to somebody in Pine Class (Reception).
Dennis the Menace reads to Burglar Bill!

The Boy in the Dress

Tom (from Beast Quest) meets the Boy in the Dress

All the children in the school went into the hall to show everybody which characters they were.

There was an amazing array of costumes.

Here is Chestnut Class in their costumes.  It was a great day.

Science - testing different surfaces

We had a science lesson to test which surface was best for getting a model car to travel the furthest.

The first group Mia, Layton and me went outside to test how far the car went on the paving slabs. Many people did it outside but this was the first group that did it. We had loads of fun, everybody enjoyed it.

We were told how to do it and we understood it all. We all had such fun making tests for distances and measurements. We enjoyed it all and were very happy. We all had to measure a lot of lengths so it was maths as well as science. It was quite hard and when we rolled something along the table it sometimes rolled off the table. We all used racing model cars when we were measuring.
We had great fun!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Learning cafe - 2nd March 2015

The Chestnut Class learning cafe

Miss Peck read us the three little pigs in Spanish and English.

We had to make a backdrop for our little pigs to tell the story and we had a conversation in Spanish.

After we made the backdrop we made finger puppets of the three little pigs.

It was great fun and these are some of the comments from adults that came to help:

"I learnt a little bit of Spanish, in a fun and enjoyable way with my son! Thank you."

Another thoroughly enjoyable learning cafĂ©! We’ve all had great fun and learnt some Spanish too. “Gracias!"

"It was good to learn new things."

Very enjoyable morning. Always nice to see your child happy learning.
