Chesnut class - gymnastics

We were doing a warm up and we were having fun because we were trying out different movements around the hall.We have a fun teacher that doing fun things, some people fell over but most succeeded.



 This is our class attempting a one legged balance.    
Later we were doing some balances e.g arch, tuck dish ,dish  and more.

Afterwards we started making are own sequences.

World book day

It's world book day and lots of children dressed up. World book day is not about dressing up, it is about reading but the reason the children dressed up is because they came as their favourite character from a book. Some people were characters from Frozen. 

Year 3 children enjoyed reading to younger children in Reception and Year 1.

All the children in the school went into the hall to show everybody which characters they were.

There was an amazing array of costumes.

Here is Chestnut Class in their costumes.  It was a great day.

Science - testing different surfaces

We had a science lesson to test which surface was best for getting a model car to travel the furthest.

The first group Mia, Layton and me went outside to test how far the car went on the paving slabs. Many people did it outside but this was the first group that did it. We had loads of fun, everybody enjoyed it. 

We were told how to do it and we understood it all. We all had such fun making tests for distances and measurements.We enjoyed it all and were very happy. We all had to measure a lot of lengths so it was maths as well as science. It was quite hard and when we rolled something along the table it sometimes rolled off the table. We all used racing model cars when we were measuring.

Learning cafe - 2nd March 2015

The Chestnut Class learning cafe

Miss Peck read us the three little pigs in Spanish and English.

We had to make a backdrop for our little pigs to tell the story and we had a conversation in Spanish.

After we made the backdrop we made finger puppets of the three little pigs.

It was great fun and these are some of the comments from adults that came to help:

"I learnt a little bit of Spanish, in a fun and enjoyable way with my son! Thank you." 

Another thoroughly enjoyable learning café! We’ve all had great fun and learnt some Spanish too. “Gracias!"

Music and drama - rhythm stories

Music and drama in Chestnut Class

We have done loads of drama and lots of music and acting we had loads of fun. 

1st group: Our group did something about animals I was a cheetah, Sam was a lizard, Lille was a Dalmatian puppy, Trinity was a wolf.

2nd group.  Isabella was a gorilla,  Brooke a kangaroo and Layton a monkey. It was awesome and exciting.

 This group was exciting to watch, their drama was good.

  

Steve Parker, author, visits Chestnut Class

Steve Parker visits Chestnut Class at Morley V.A.Primary School

Steve Parker is an author of non-fiction books.  He told us about how long it takes him to get to work.  It just takes him a few seconds because his office is in his house where he lives. 

He showed us the different books that he's written.  There was quite a lot of books, one really good one was about robots where you can build your own robot. 

Steve got us to work in groups to invent something that would help people.  One group invented a V-transformation, this is a 4 x 4 vehicle which can change into any vehicle you like e.g. a motorbike, a boat or a Sports Utility Vehicle (S.U.V.).   At night if you're parking the car in your garage and you leave your garage door open you can just put the control in your garage and it puts a laser beam trap to stop people getting to your vehicle.

We enjoyed Steve Parker's visit and we hope he will visit our school again. 

Gymnastics lessons

Each Wednesday this half-term we  have gymnastics for our P.E. lessons, our coach is called Kerry.  It's extremely enjoyable and exhausting!

This week we were learning about different sorts of jumps, the jumps are:
tuck jump, straight jump, star jump, 360 degrees (full turn) jump and a half-turn jump.  

Some children found the tuck jump the hardest and others thought the full-turn jump was hardest.

We had to do a routine with people jumping at the same time and include all of the jumps.  It was great fun.

We are looking forward to seeing what we will learn 

in our next gymnastics lesson.
