Chestnut class learn Capoeira

Capoeira

We have been learning about Capoeria in our P.E. lessons. It's a combination of gymnastics, martial arts and dance. We now know that Capoeira was invented by slaves in Brazil, the slaves were originally from Africa. Brazil is in South America and the people there speak Portuguese. Ashley, the Capoeria teacher, told us that Capoeria gave slaves the courage to break free.

For a warm up, Ashley told us to play 'Stuck in the mud' a few times.  It was stuck in the mud Capoeira style. The picture below shows us playing it.

Putting moves we'd learnt together, two children demonstrate.

We had to keep our legs straight and try to put our elbows down and noses on the floor!
