Science - learning about forces

Science-magnets and forces

We are learning about non-contact and contact forces.

If a south pole and a south pole on a magnet are put together they will repel each other, however if a north pole and a south pole are put together they will attract each other.                                                                                                                                                                                                             Thomas, Harry and Sam making their fishing
                                                                                   game.

We were trying to make a fishing game with magnets. We experimented in groups to see how we can create a game where we have to catch fish but without touching the fish ourselves.  We found that magnets were the best way to catch the fish as magnets attracted the metal which was on the fish (a paperclip).  This force is called a non-contact force as we didn't have to push or pull the fish ourselves.

We all showed everybody our games and here is a picture of a group showing theirs.
